* We use the definition of Commuting Zones based on commuting patterns in the 1990 Census (e.g., Tolbert and Sizer 1996); definitions based on the 2000 Census differ slightly and can be mapped to the 1990 definitions using the crosswalks on this website. These data tables are version 2.1, which contain minor updates and clarifications to Version 2.0. Version 2.0 was released January 17, 2014. For Version 1.0 (released on July 22, 2013), click here. Version 2.1 reports statistics using the 1980-82 birth cohorts (rather than 1980-81) and includes new data such as mobility statistics by county and MSA, new CZ-level covariates, and marginal income distributions for parents and children.
